You can find the name of an occupational therapist to contact by a combination of four routes.
- By the type of service you require: e.g. treatment and rehabilitation; advice on equipment; work rehabilitation; residential care etc. There are 28 service areas listed. When you call up the list of occupational therapists providing that service you will see a brief description of the work that you might expect an occupational therapist to provide related to that service area.
- By the age group: e.g. children; adolescents and young adults; adults; older people.
- By the client group: e.g. physical disability; learning difficulty; mental health; brain injury.
- By the geographic region in which you require the service. There is a link to a map. The map shows that we have divided the British Isles into 26 regions and further shows which counties/metropolitan regions are included within each region. There are also categories for occupational therapists who are, or who have staff who are, prepared to work nationally, Europe wide, or internationally.
When you have selected your choices for these options on the search page, you will see a list of all the entrants who offer the service you require. The therapists are listed in a random fashion so that there is no alphabetical bias. You will see that many of the occupational therapists listed appear to live some distance away from the geographic area that you have selected.
If members stated that they are prepared to travel long distances for some aspects of their work (for example Medico-legal assessments), they will appear as being prepared to travel long distances for all the services that they provide (for example, Treatment and Rehabilitation). Therapists in the directory who are based in the precise region you selected will appear first, followed by all others. Because of the random nature of the remainder of the list we recommend that you look through the whole list to find therapists in neighbouring areas.Whilst it is practical to travel a long distance for a one-off assessment it is not practical to travel long distances for regular treatment sessions.
Having found the name of an occupational therapist you can then click on the link to find contact details and information about her/his experience. The information given will help you to find someone to suit your needs.
