Qualified occupational therapists have undergone a 3 year (or 3 year equivalent) degree level training. This training equips occupational therapists with a wide range of skills and knowledge associated with enabling individuals with either physical, mental or social impairments to maximise their occupational performance within the home, at work, within education and in their social and recreational lives.
After qualification occupational therapists may work in any of the wide range of services associated with health and social care. They may develop their skills further within the health service, social services departments, housing departments, industry, voluntary organisations, charities, education establishments, the legal system, insurance services, housing associations and the prison service.
Occupational therapists may concentrate on working as a treating therapist or may move into management or, with experience, may take on a consulting or advisory role; or they may go into professional education or research.
The occupational therapists listed within this directory represent this range of expertise. It is therefore important that you select the occupational therapist who meets your specific requirements.
